Riot Games Collaborates With Cisco
Riot Games collaborates with Cisco. The collaboration with Cisco will provide Riot with robust infrastructure and networking capabilities spanning five continents, as well as three global competitions that will boost the competitive atmosphere for pro players and enhance fans’ viewing experience.
The first of the capabilities include The Realm – Competitive Esports Server Upgrade. Cisco’s networking solutions will power “The Realm” – the private game server used exclusively for pro-level competitive LoL Esports matches at three major global events: The League of Legends World Championship, The Mid-Season Invitational, and The All-Star Event. This would allow players instantaneous reaction times and uninterrupted gameplay.
The second would be Global Esports Networking. Fans at home will be able to watch LoL Esports streaming streams with reduced latency and increased quality using Cisco’s advanced networking technology, getting them closer to the action.
Thirdly is the Regional Broadcast Center Upgrades. Riot Games will deploy more than 200 new tournament game servers in regional studios all centrally managed though Cisco’s new Intersight SaaS solution. In order to provide better performance with reduced latency for regional professional games, Riot Games will create a shared network footprint across the 12 RBCs including virtualisation, storage, and computing. With Cisco blade nodes, broadcast centers will no longer need new hardware, allowing for potential new esport applications to come online with ease.
Fourth is the Global Riot Object Storage. Riot Games will undergo a major, global expansion of their object storage system to support content distribution, media processing, and global content archive. With Cisco’s Storage Optimized Computing Solutions, Riot will build an archive to protect their legacy of content triplling the amount of usable storage and capacity.
